Twickenham Classic Walking Tour

Highlights:  There’s more to Twickenham than rugby. Old Twickenham has a rich historical and cultural legacy and bristles with character and hidden gems.

Among the attractions of this leisurely stroll you will pass London’s oldest film studios, the retreat of Britain’s greatest landscape painter J.M.W. Turner, the handsome Palladian mansion of a royal mistress, and see the magnificent view across the Thames to historic Ham House and Richmond Hill.

Then meander along the riverbank past the homes of French royal exiles, meet the saucy ‘Naked Ladies’ and take in Twickenham’s classic Thames waterfront and quirky Eel Pie Island, the home of musical legend including jazz, rhythm & blues and rock.

The walk finishes at Twickenham’s picturesque Church Street with its pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops.  Or you can extend your visit to Strawberry Hill House, Horace Walpole’s ‘Little Gothic Castle’,  Eel Pie Island Museum and Twickenham Museum.

Duration & Distance:  2.5 miles (4 kilometres). Approximately 2.5 hours.  The walk from Twickenham to Strawberry Hill House is a further 0.25 miles (0.4 Kilometres)

Terrain:  Mostly flat along paved paths, gravel and grass tracks. Steps at York House Gardens. Recommend suitable shoes for walking.
